I would like to begin by saying that the summer and fall of 2008 would have made any real estate transaction a difficult one. That said, I think we made many of the right decisions, considering the circumstances, and Tony helped me make those decisions by providing his personal insight and experience with real estate on English Hill.
We tried to stay ahead of the falling real estate prices, but we also tried not to give the property away. Tony helped me keep my perspective by pointing out that even though I was selling into a falling market, I was also buying my replacement property in a falling market. The transaction was a complex one including a reverse 1031 exchange and a forward 1031 exchange, and Tony wasn’t shaken by any of the complexity.
